The World of AI technology is advancing exponentially, and we are experiencing evolution as it happens. One of the most prominent additions to this niche is ChatGPT3. The new Chatbot is competing with Google for users' attention.

Is it truly going to change how we experience the internet today? Keep reading to know.

What is ChatGPT3?

ChatGPT3 is a conversational language model created by OpenAI.

Built on Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) architecture, it is pre-trained using a sizable dataset of conversational text.

Users can utilize the model for several natural language processing tasks, including question answering, text completion, and conversation synthesis, which can be performed using the model's ability to generate human-like text responses to a given prompt.

ChatGPT - The Latest Update

Here are details of the last two updates of ChatGPT-3 AI to help you understand if you are using the latest update

Jan 9, 2023 - Version Notes

ChatGPT recently introduced the latest updates to ChatGPT. Here is what the new update entails.

The ChatGPT model is coming with additional advancements.

It should be more accurate overall and cover a more comprehensive range of subjects.

Based on users' comments, they have also included the option to disable ChatGPT's answer from being generated.

Dec 15, 2022 - Release Notes

The last update of ChatGPT for comparison:

General performance:

The December update will make ChatGPT less likely to refuse to answer questions.

Conversation history:

ChatGPT will soon have the option to look at previous search history. With this feature, users who talk to GPT can rename the saved history and remove the ones they do not want to keep.

This update is rolling out gradually.

Daily cap:

We're experimenting with a daily message cap to provide all ChatGPT users with a high-quality experience.

If you belong to this group, you will be given a choice to increase your access by offering ChatGPT comments.

Look for "ChatGPT Dec 15 Version" at the bottom of the screen to determine if you're using the most recent version.

Top 2 Features of the Latest Updates

More Accuracy:

Based on customer inquiries, Chat GPT has updated how it delivers information. ChatGPT will now cover more topics, presenting the information more accurately.  As a result, ChatGPT will provide users with more accurate answers to their questions.

Stop Response:

Following user feedback, ChatGPT can now stop generating responses, according to a statement from OpenAI. Hence, the user will have greater control and the option to instruct the ChatGPT model to stop producing responses.

It is an excellent addition, especially given how frequently Chat GPT updates the chat with new information. For example, the user has the power to instruct the chatbot to stop if they inquire about something and Chat GPT continues to discuss.

Method for ChatGPT Creation

Like InstructGPT, ChatGPT creators also use Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) to train this model. But it has a few minor variations in the data collection arrangement.

They have used supervised fine-tuning to train an initial model. To do so, they deployed human AI trainers to act as both the user and the AI assistant in chats.

The trainers had access to sample writing recommendations to assist them in creating their responses.

They combined their new dialogue dataset with the InstructGPT dataset after converting the InstructGPT into a dialogue format. They needed comparison data, which included at least two model replies ordered by quality, to build a reward model for reinforcement learning.

Then, they used the chatbot interactions that AI trainers conducted with it to get this data. Afterward, they randomly selected a model-written sentence, sampled multiple potential completions, and had AI trainers score them. Currently, they are using Proximal Policy Optimization to adjust the model using these reward models.  This method was iterated upon multiple times.

Limitations of ChatGPT

ChatGPT3 does have some drawbacks that users might come across while using the platform. These are listed below.

Sometimes OpenAI Chatbot gives incorrect or illogical answers, that too while sounding extremely confident. It is challenging to fix the problem because there is no source, to tell the truth in Reinforcement learning. Hence, due diligence is needed on the users' part to check for factual errors.

If the creators make the model more cautious, it will refuse to answer questions it can respond to correctly. Also, the supervised model does not work because the best response depends on the model's knowledge rather than the demonstrator's know-how.

The phrasing of the question also matters. ChatGPT is sensitive to repetition. So, if you ask the same question several times, you can run into issues. Moreover, the phrasing of the question can change how the model creates the answer. A slight rewording of the question can lead to a more accurate response.

Additionally, an uncertain query should be met with clarifying questions from the model. Instead, the current model will assume what the user means and provide answers accordingly.

Although the model does have provisions to deny any unsuitable request, there are times when it will consider the negative instruction.

The creators expect some false negatives and positives for now, and hence leverage Moderation API to prohibit hazardous content and specific categories. Moreover, they are continuously learning and improving by gathering user inputs.

ChatGPT also frequently uses unnecessary words and phrases.

The Expectations from the Next Update - GPT-4

GPT-4 may have brain-like complexity. An excellent way to quantify the capabilities of a language model like GPT is to look at the number of parameters in it. The best method to understand this is to envision the parameters as neurons in the brain; with each new iteration of the GPT model, the brain grows larger and more sophisticated, able to do tasks more quickly and intricately thanks to improved connectivity.

Some of the early forecasts of ChatGPT-4 suggest that it may have 100 trillion parameters, a 100-fold increase from GPT-3. And there is still some discussion on how the changes will affect the model in terms of size. These parameters equal the number of neural connections in the human brain.

Moreover, some predictions also mention that GPT-4 will have multimodal capabilities. It means that apart from text, the upgraded fourth-generation ChatGPT will also have provisions for photos, videos, and other types of multimedia.

Additionally, the next update may be able to answer questions more quickly and with greater accuracy.

That is just the tip of the iceberg!

When GPT-4 debuts, its field of influence is anticipated to go beyond global tech, information, and content creation. It also has the potential to upset the international economy.

OpenAI is setting the rate of growth in the digital sector. Competitors must keep up with it if they want to win and remain relevant, but most won't be able to keep up with it or match it in practice.

Major Update

The year is 2024, and ChatGPT-4 is already available in the market. However, it comes with a price tag. It is the better alternative as it does have multimodal capabilities allowing it to respond to both text and image inputs.

Additionally, it provides better customization, creativity, and problem-solving. Furthermore, it is a much better code generator, capable of taking both image and text prompts and turning them into precise codes.

In the latest update, that is on April 29th, 2024, memory is available for ChatGPT Plus users. In this, GPT will remember the previous conversation, but the choice remains with the users. They can turn memory on or off in settings.

Prompting Tips for ChatGPT-4

To ensure that you get the best results from your prompts while using the NLP platform, do the following:

  • Set clear goals for the result.
  • Research your audience's interests
  • Diversify formats like open-ended questions, polls, and quizzes.
  • Prompts should have meaningful insights
  • Ensure that prompts match your brand’s personality
  • Monitor performance to refine prompts

What’s Next?

Now, the talks about ChatGPT-5 that is going to be much more advanced. However, OpenAI has been quiet about the whole update. We can assume that it would be materially better. The product has been in training for the past complete year and will have more than 1.5 trillion parameters than GPT-4. The stronger underlying architecture will facilitate better performance without any change in overall model size.

Large language models require a lot of money and therefore the price tag these models come with is not a surprise. So, ChatGPT-5 is highly likely to be paid as well. It might have a free and paid version, but that is still unknown.

Additionally, we have Gemini, with both paid and free versions ready to use for the people. It is Google’s response to ChatGPT, and for now it does have multi-modality option even in the free version.

Get better or You Will fall behind

OpenAI API is fundamentally altering the global tech landscape, posing an existential threat to its direct competitors in the AI sector and many other sectors of the larger society. Instead of simply raising the bar or fostering healthy competition between rival companies, OpenAI is altogether redefining the global tech landscape.

Due to this destabilization, competitors must choose between competing against one another or working together.

A Competition to Google

On team competing, Google has confidently commandeered the ship over the past 20 years, with almost all of its opponents embracing their roles as ever-second mates.

But as the tide turns and the waves become choppy, OpenAI, a smaller but faster riptide, is speeding past Google's path and endangering to flip their boat.

Since staking its mark on the internet two decades ago, Google has never had to contend with this kind of competition.

ChatGPT can potentially harm Google's business strategy in two key ways: revenue and user-friendliness.

Regarding the former, searching through a page of links offered by Google Search is a considerably less handy choice than using ChatGPT's quick, to-the-point responses.

Second, concerning the latter, the infrastructure of chatbots does not naturally lend itself to incorporating advertisements, which is essential to Google's business model because it operates primarily as an advertising company and received about 80% of its revenue from sponsored ads last year.

As a result, many people are now worried that the widespread success of ChatGPT and the upcoming release of GPT-4/ It may mark the beginning of the day Google has been dreading for the past 20 years. The day it is confronted with a bigger, better version of itself.

This ironic rivalry, however, can be better described as arrogance, given that Google has been a significant driving force in the field of AI. Some Google alumni who OpenAI currently employs contributed to ChatGPT's code.

It wasn't a matter of if, but when the outcomes of their game-changing inventions would come back to haunt them, that bite would get much worse with the release of GPT-4.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, recently issued a "code red" to his organization, shifting teams to center corporate emphasis on developing its own AI portfolio and accelerating the release of AI prototypes.

Microsoft's Approach

Microsoft has taken a completely different action by adopting the philosophy that If you can't defeat them, join them!

So, Microsoft is collaborating with OpenAI

The software company Microsoft revealed hopes that the new alliance with OpenAI might rival Google's Search, a feat they have so far yet to achieve, after announcing the integration of a new ChatGPT function within their search engine, Bing.

It will be interesting to watch which additional competitors in the AI race will opt to team up with OpenAI and which will prefer to go head-to-head in light of these two very different strategies from the tech titans.

Final Thoughts: Let’s Start Using AI Today!

In light of the recent updates, it is clear that ChatGPT3 is here to stay and evolve. And as the platform gains more users, the parent company will keep investing in improving the system.
